Laser Hair Removal in Seoul: Procedure, Sessions & Aftercare
Medical laser hair reduction for the face, underarms, legs, bikini and body — how it works, how many sessions you need and what to expect in Gangnam.
Laser hair removal uses laser energy absorbed by pigment in the hair follicle to reduce regrowth. It works best on dark hair and is used on the face, underarms, arms, legs, bikini area and back. Sessions take from a few minutes to about 30 minutes depending on the area, with mild redness for a few hours to a day; most people need around 5–8 sessions spaced several weeks apart for long-term reduction. Pricing depends on the area and package and is confirmed at consultation.
How laser hair removal works
The laser emits light that is absorbed by melanin in the hair shaft and follicle. The heat damages the follicle and reduces its ability to grow new hair. Because only hairs in the active growth (anagen) phase respond, treatment is repeated over several sessions to catch hairs as they cycle.
Common devices include:
- Diode laser – widely used for most skin types and coarse hair
- Alexandrite laser – effective on lighter skin
- Nd:YAG laser – longer wavelength, generally safer for darker skin tones
Treatment areas
- Face: upper lip, chin, beard line, sideburns
- Underarms
- Arms and legs
- Bikini line and Brazilian area
- Chest, abdomen and back (popular with men)

What to expect
- Consultation to check skin type, hair colour and medical history
- Shave the area the day before; do not wax or pluck for several weeks beforehand, since the laser needs the hair root
- Cooling gel or a cooled tip is used; most people feel a brief snapping or heat sensation
- Small areas take a few minutes; larger areas such as legs take longer
- Treated hairs shed over 1–3 weeks
Most people need around 5–8 sessions, typically 4–6 weeks apart for the body and somewhat closer for the face.
Aftercare
- Mild redness and bumps around follicles usually settle within hours to a day
- Avoid hot baths, saunas and intense exercise for 24–48 hours
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning, and use sunscreen on exposed areas
- Do not wax or pluck between sessions — shaving is fine
Results, limits and safety
- Laser gives long-term hair reduction rather than guaranteed permanent removal; occasional maintenance sessions may be needed
- White, grey, light blonde or red hair responds poorly because it lacks pigment
- Hormonal conditions (e.g. PCOS) can cause regrowth
- Tanned skin increases the risk of burns or pigment change — tell the doctor about recent sun exposure
- Possible side effects include temporary redness, swelling and, rarely, pigment changes
Pricing depends on the area and number of sessions and is confirmed after consultation. Nest Clinic is 1 minute from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 7 in Gangnam.

Frequently asked questions
How many laser hair removal sessions do I need?
Most people need around 5–8 sessions spaced several weeks apart, because the laser only affects hairs in the active growth phase.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
It provides long-term hair reduction. Remaining hair is usually finer, and occasional maintenance sessions may be needed.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most people feel a quick snapping or warm sensation. Cooling is used to improve comfort, and sensitive areas feel stronger.
Can I shave between sessions?
Yes, shaving is fine, but avoid waxing or plucking because the laser needs the hair root to be present.
Does it work on light or grey hair?
Laser works poorly on white, grey, light blonde or red hair because these hairs contain little pigment.
