Quick answer

Botox for hyperhidrosis is a series of small injections of botulinum toxin into the skin that temporarily blocks the nerve signals to sweat glands. It is used for the underarms, palms, soles and forehead in people whose sweating is not controlled by antiperspirants. Treatment takes about 15–30 minutes with no real downtime; sweating decreases within days, the full effect appears in about 2 weeks, and results typically last around 4–6 months. Price depends on the area and dose.

What is Botox for excessive sweating?

Hyperhidrosis is sweating beyond what the body needs to regulate temperature. Botulinum toxin injected into the skin blocks the nerve signals that activate sweat glands, so the treated area sweats much less for a period of months. It is a well-established, non-surgical treatment for primary focal hyperhidrosis.

Areas that can be treated

  • Underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis) – the most common and best-studied area.
  • Palms – helpful for people whose sweaty hands affect work or daily life.
  • Soles of the feet
  • Forehead and scalp line

Palms and soles are more sensitive, so numbing methods are discussed during consultation.

Who is a good candidate?

  • People who sweat heavily from the underarms, hands, feet or face regardless of temperature or activity
  • Those who regularly stain clothing or change shirts during the day
  • People for whom antiperspirants have not been sufficient

A doctor first checks for medical causes of sweating. Botox is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for some neuromuscular conditions.

What to expect during treatment

  • Consultation in English and assessment of the sweating area
  • The area is marked and cleaned; numbing can be applied
  • Many tiny, shallow injections are placed in a grid across the area
  • Treatment usually takes around 15–30 minutes and you can return to daily activities straight away

Results and how long they last

Sweating usually starts to decrease within a few days, with the full effect after about 2 weeks. Results generally last around 4–6 months for the underarms and may be shorter for the palms; repeat treatment is needed when sweating returns.

Side effects and aftercare

Small bumps, redness or mild bruising at injection points are common and settle quickly. Palm treatment can occasionally cause temporary weakness of grip. Avoid rubbing the area, saunas and intense exercise for 24 hours. Pricing depends on the area and dose, and is confirmed at consultation.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Botox for sweating last?

For the underarms results typically last about 4–6 months; palms may wear off sooner. Treatment is repeated when sweating returns.

Does hyperhidrosis Botox hurt?

Underarm injections are usually well tolerated. Palms and soles are more sensitive, so numbing options are used.

When does Botox for sweating start working?

Most people notice less sweating within a few days, with the full effect after about two weeks.

Is it safe to stop sweating in one area?

Yes. Treated areas make up only a small part of the body’s sweat glands, so normal temperature regulation continues.

How much does Botox for excessive sweating cost?

Price depends on the area treated and the dose needed, and is confirmed after consultation.
